That Card Machine Guy

Cash flow

Settlement Times

When card takings reach your bank account matters. Here is how settlement works, what next-working-day options mean and why timing belongs in any payment setup review.

The useful detail

Clear answers for busy business owners.

What settlement means

Settlement is when the card money moves from the payment provider into your business bank account. The time between a customer paying and you receiving the funds affects how quickly you can pay suppliers, restock, cover wages or use the money to run the business.

Next-working-day options

Dojo offers next-day settlement options, subject to the terms of the account. Other providers may settle on the next working day or take longer. The detail matters: check when weekends and bank holidays are treated, whether the timing applies to all transactions and whether there are separate costs.

Why cash flow matters

A 48-hour wait can be awkward for a dealership waiting to buy stock or a seasonal business paying bills after a busy weekend. Faster settlement is not automatically worth paying more for, but it should be part of the comparison alongside rates, fixed fees and reliability.

  • More predictable day-to-day cash flow
  • Faster access to money from high-value sales
  • Less need to bridge gaps with overdraft or credit
  • A clearer picture of what is available in the bank

Include it in your review

When I review your setup, tell me how long settlement currently takes and whether it causes a problem. I will compare the timing with the full cost, contract terms and equipment so you can decide with the whole picture.

No pressure. Just a clearer view of what your payment setup is doing.
